George Floyd Justice In Policing Act Pending Senate Approval

President Joe Biden is hosting the family of George Floyd on the first anniversary of his murder. The administration was hopeful the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act would pass by the anniversary, but it is still sitting in the Senate. BNC Washington D.C. Correspondent Bofta Yimam joins “Start Your Day” with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss the bill and the hurdles it must go through. One central sticking point with the bill is qualified immunity, a federal doctrine that protects officers accused of violating the constitution while on duty. Critics say it allows rogue officers to have legal protections, while supporters say it is critical for an officer to carry out split-second decisions in dangerous situations.
