Grandmother Sent Back to Prison After Missing Call From Parole Officer While in Computer Class

Yodit Tewolde opens up “Making the Case” by discussing the case of Gwen Levy, a 76-year-old grandmother and lung cancer survivor. She was sent back to prison after missing a phone call from her parole officer while she was in a computer class.

“There’s no question she was in class, but she was still listed as an ‘escape.’ She could’ve been robbing a bank, so we’re going to treat her as if she was robbing a bank,” according to her parole officer.

Levy’s case highlights the country’s parole and probation problem.

Tewolde sits down with Dyjuan Tatro, a senior advisor of strategic outreach for a Democratic congressional campaign, to talk about Levy’s case as well as his history of incarceration.

All this and more on β€œMaking the Case.”
