Juneteenth has been celebrated since the 19th century, but according to a new poll, the day that just became a national holiday is part of history many are just now learning about. According to a Gallup Poll released just this week, only 37% of U.S. adults say they have “a lot” or “some” knowledge about what Juneteenth is. Another 34% report knowing only “a little” about it, and 28% admit they know absolutely nothing at all. The poll itself is the first Gallup has ever even conducted about Juneteenth. The results also vary by race, age and political affiliation. Rodney Coates, a professor of critical race and Ethnic studies at Miami University in Ohio, joins “Prime with Charles Blow” to discuss the poll and the importance of critical race theory.
