Parenting during the coronavirus pandemic has new layers of stress due to social isolation and virtual learning. A new report by the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Michigan revealed that teenagers had an increase in anxiety, depression and sleep issues during the pandemic. The study surveyed parents of teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18. Parenting Coach and Educational Consultant Domari Dickinson joined Start Your Day with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to offer advice to parents whose teenagers may be dealing with mental health challenges. Dickinson said the pandemic has been challenging on everyone, but parents often forget that their children are dealing with it too. Instead of focusing on the things that they would typically focus on, she says parents should shift their focus onto skills that children need to survive in life like boundary setting and community engagement.
