In Florida, Republicans are moving quickly on another bill equipped with several restrictions for voters. Senate Bill 90 passed in the statehouse last night and will become law once signed by Governor Ron DeSantis.
With DeSantis’ signature, the legislation will:
-Limit the availability of drop boxes to early voting hours and limit who can collect and drop off ballots.
-Ban outside groups from giving water to voters near polling places.
-Add more identification requirements for absentee ballots.
-Require voters to request an absentee ballot every election.
-Empower partisan observers during the ballot-counting process.
SB 90 is opposed by 66 of Florida’s 67 county election supervisors, religious leaders, voting rights advocates, and many corporations. Republican legislators across the country have introduced over 350 bills with restrictive provisions in 47 states.
