Major American Cities Losing Black Police Officers to Retirement


Charles Blow talks about how the country is losing Black police officers to retirement, at a time where cops are killing Black people at β€œhorrifying rates.”
According to Census data, β€œIn 99 of the country’s 100 largest metropolitan areas, the share of white police officers exceeds the white population.”
New York City has seen a 14% drop in Black officers since 2008, Philadelphia a 19% drop since 2017 and Washington, D.C. has dropped by 25% since 1998, according to The Atlantic.
Activist DeRay Mckesson and retired LAPD Sergeant Cheryl Dorsey join β€œPrime” to talk about the drop in working Black cops.
