The World Health Organization says the Omicron variant is spreading faster than the Delta variant and is causing infections in the vaccinated and those who have recovered from the virus.
D.C. mayor, Muriel Bowser, has declared a state of emergency amid the record number of new local infections. Mayor Bowser is re-instating mask, and booster-shot mandates after D.C. reported two consecutive days of record-breaking new infections late last week.
D.C.’s indoor mask mandate will start tomorrow and continue until January 31, 2022.
In the United States, there are nearly 52-million reported cases and 827,343 deaths.
According to the CDC, about 61.4-percent of the population in the United States is fully vaccinated against Covid.
