NAACP Founding Member W.E.B. DuBois Passed Away on This Day in 1963

On this day in Black history, NAACP founding member W.E.B. DuBois passed away on this day in 1963.

He dedicated his life to confronting the issue of inequality and was celebrated for his deep sociological study of race and racism in America. In 1905, DuBois founded the Niagara Movement in response to racial violence perpetuated by Jim Crow.

DuBois came together with other activists in Canada intending to pursue radical and social change. This collective was the forerunner of the NAACP.

“Oppression costs the oppressor too much if the oppressed stand up and protest,” DuBois said.

All this and more on β€œPrime.”
