Nayerra Haq Gives the Latest on Refugee Cap, Immigration Policies

The waters off the coast of California are choppy and the winds brutal. These are two factors that may have caused a boat with nearly three dozen people to capsize near San Diego on Sunday. Authorities say the boat was likely carrying undocumented immigrants. Days later, President Biden announced he was raising the number of refugee admissions into the country from 15,000 to 62,500. Nayerra Haq, host of BNC’s “The World Tonight,” joined “Start Your Day” with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss what Biden’s refugee cap means for immigration. Haq served as a Senior Director on International Security and Diplomacy under the Obama Administration. She said under the Reagan Administration, hundreds of thousands of refugees were allowed into the country and immigration recently became controversial due to policies put in place by former President Donald Trump.
