New Norm: Highland Project Founder Gabrielle Wyatt Seeks to Address Wage Gap and Generational Wealth

In an effort to gain a better understanding of what changes we have to face during the global pandemic, BNC takes a look at the β€œnew norm” in many aspects of society. According to BNC Live’s Laverne McGee, many believed that post COVID, the pay gap would shrink becoming more balanced, however, that is not the case in every situation.

BNC correspondent, Nerissa Knight, takes a look at the number of pay disparities amongst the workforce and how it continues to impact the earning power for women of color. Gabrielle Wyatt, founder of the Highland Project, joins the discussion to lay out the main goal of her organization.

β€œThe Highland Project is focused on building and sustaining a pipeline of Black women leaders of communities, institutions and systems who are creating multi-generational wealth in their communities,” Wyatt said.

Wyatt also spoke on the part that systemic racism has had on the growth of American economy, citing the issues of racial disparities from education and pay has hindered growth economically, putting the U.S. behind by decades.
