Pediatric community 'thrilled' by results of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine trial in children

New cases of COVID-19 are up by 17% in just two weeks and 99 million adults in the United States have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Now, vaccine trials are underway for children between the ages of six months and 11. Dr. Anastasia Williams, the Medical Director of Pediatrics at Novant Health UVA, joined Start Your Day with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss pediatric clinical trials. Pfizer is the only vaccine recommended for the 16 – 18 age group and the company began testing it in children between the ages of 12 to 15. β€œThe results of the study came out a couple of days ago and we in the pediatric community are really thrilled because they have been able to show the Pfizer vaccine indeed is safe and not only is it safe, it is 100% effective in preventing COVID infection in children ages 12 to 15 in addition to that 16 to 18-year-old group,” she said.
