The aviation industry faces a shortage of airline pilots after many of them were laid off or retired because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the Tuskegee Airmen breaking barriers in aviation, “An overwhelming 94% of the country’s 155,000 aircraft pilots and flight engineers are white, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor,” Blow says.
President of the Tuskegee Airmen National Museum, Brian Smith, joins “Prime” to talk about the push to get more Black people to become airline pilots by honoring the Tuskegee Airmen.
