'Racism is a preexisting condition': Dr. Chris Pernell talks COVID-19 in Black community

For the second week in a row, hospitalizations from COVID-19 rose to nearly 40,000. Dr. Chris Pernell, a public health physician and American College of Preventative Medicine fellow, joined “Start Your Day” with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill. Pernell said so many more Black people are dying from the virus because of systemic racism. “Racism is a preexisting condition,” she said. “Racism worsens any public health crisis just like it worsens any condition across the social determinants of health or even across sectors.”
