Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-Virgin Islands) called out Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.) for bigoted remarks about Black people on the House floor Wednesday. During a debate on the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, Grothman brought up the marriage penalty, saying that Black Lives Matter “doesn’t like the old-fashioned family.”
Plaskett responded to Grothman’s remark and asked for it to be stricken from the record. “How dare you say that Black Lives Matter [or] Black people do not understand old-fashioned families?” She went on to say despite the historical disadvantages Black people “have been able to keep our families alive for over 400 years.”
