Republicans Supported Juneteenth Bill While Blocking Policies Addressing Racial Inequality


Juneteenth is now a national holiday, but the victory may feel hollow to some. Through it passed overwhelmingly, 14 House Republicans voted against it, and some Republicans may think they can hide behind their Juneteenth vote while they block several policies addressing racial inequalities. Despite the overwhelming vote to support the holiday, Republican lawmakers across the country have passed voter suppression laws in 14 states, and they will presumably block the For the People Act. Bishop William Barber joins “Prime with Charles Blow” to discuss his thoughts on Republicans blocking important legislation to support equality and Senator Joe Manchin’s suggestions on the voting rights bill.
