Retired Det. Sgt. Heather Taylor talks police accountability, activism on 'Start Your Day'

Tishaura Jones will become the first Black woman to be sworn in as the mayor of St. Louis. She promised to hire two veteran law enforcement officials to run the city’s public safety department. Retired police sergeant Heather Taylor, who has been outspoken about policing and racial injustice, joined “Start Your Day” with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss Jones’ plan. Taylor said her brother committed a murder when she was 15 and that was her first lesson with accountability. In college, she focused on sports and her aunt was murdered and it was a difficult time for her family. Citing her experience as the former President of the Ethical Society of Police, she said the experience of constantly fighting and standing up to others was “exhausting.”
