Rodney 'Red' Grant talks 'Don't Shoot Guns Shoot Cameras' initiative

Gun violence has come to the national forefront after mass shootings in Atlanta, Georgia and Boulder, Colorado. With children growing up being exposed to guns and violence, a program in Washington D.C. has been created to give kids a different view. Comedian Rodney “Red” Grant, founder of “Don’t Shoot Guns Shoot Cameras,” joined Start Your Day with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to talk about the program. Grant said he got the idea back in 1998, but he did not have an opportunity to bring it to life. After seeing a spike in gun violence in Washington D.C., he decided the time was right to officially launch in the summer of 2020. The program took children and taught them about the filmmaking process. Grant says the participants’ enthusiasm has been great and the program encourages them to embrace their creativity.
