Scarface and Kierna Mayo remember the iconic legacy of DMX


Legendary rapper Scarface and with writer/cultural critic Kierna Mayo spoke with Marc Lamont Hill about the impact of the prolific career of DMX, born Earl Simmons, who died on Friday.
Scarface shared personal memories of his time with DMX, expressing that the Yonkers native was always energetic and happy. The Houston rapper also revealed that X’s relationship with God was real and that he would often break out into prayer at any moment.
Mayo spoke about DMX’s struggle with addiction and people’s need to humanize how to speak to it. One shining quality of the platinum-selling rapper’s personality was that he was down to earth. She also added her appreciation that fans could give DMX his flowers during his Verzuz battle with Snoop Dogg in July.
