The showdown has begun in the Senate over voting rights. The debate on the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act took place for the first time. Democrats used a loophole in the 60-vote rule to begin the debate, but there is no such loophole to get that final vote unless Democrats change the rules.
