Despite the overwhelming evidence presented -Tweets, video and direct quotes from rioters — House Managers could not convince the Senate Saturday to convict former President Donald Trump.
In his second impeachment trial, seven Republican Senators including Richard Burr of North Carolina, Mitt Romney of Utah, and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania voted yay that Trump was indeed guilty of inciting insurrection, however the final tally fell 10 short of the 67 votes needed for a conviction.
After the acquittal, Schumer and McConnell spoke about the results and the ramifications for the country. McConnell said Trump is “morally responsible” for the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6 and that he was “outraged” by the inciter-in-chief’s actions.
