‘Soul Train’ Creator Don Cornelius Born on This Day in 1936


On this day in 1936, Don Cornelius, who was the creator of “Soul Train” was born.

“Soul Train” created space for Black America on network television and exposed the rest of America to Black music, fashion and style. It was one of the longest-running syndicated shows in television history.

“Soul Train” spread the music of Black America to the world and brought urban flare to living rooms across the nation. The program offered exposure for transcendent soul musicians like James Brown, The Jacksons and Aretha Franklin.
