Survey: Black People Increasingly Identifying As Vegan or Vegetarian


Generation after generation of Black people have disproportionately suffered from health issues like high blood pressure and cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes and respiratory problems.

All of which have been linked to unhealthy diets in Black communities, but a recent survey suggests that a shift may be underway.

According to the Pew Research Center, 8% of African Americans identify as vegan or vegetarian.

Many Black vegans have credited health, environmental concerns and animal rights as contributing factors in their decision to turn to plant-based diets, and science supports the notion that cleaner eating leads to better health.
