The KKK Was Worth $12 Million at Height of Popularity

In this special edition of β€œPrime,” Charles Blow sits down with Daryle Lamont Jenkins, political activist and founder of One People’s Project, to talk about how the KKK used to be a big business and raked in millions of dollars.

β€œAt the height of its business operations, in 1923, the Ku Klux Klan was worth $12 million,” according to JSTOR Daily.

β€œThat was the year we had the largest Klan rally in the entire Northeast,” Jenkins says.

Blow likens the Klan’s big business to how former President Donald Trump has raised millions of dollars this year alone based on the lie that the 2020 election was stolen.

All this and more on β€œPrime.”
