The Legacy of Whitney Moore Young Jr. In Civil Rights Movement

Mount Rushmore celebrates four white American presidents for their contributions to the country.

However, a legitimate case can be made that Black America could have their own version of Mount Rushmore. Potential candidates could be the β€œBig Six,” a group of Black men that held positions in influence in organizations during the height of the civil rights movement. They included Roy Wilkins, John Lewis, James Farmer, A. Philip Randolph, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Whitney Young Jr.

Young was honored by historic civil rights organization the Urban League for his 100th birthday. He co-orchestrated the March on Washington, was an advisor to three presidents and was a force in the civil rights movement.

All this and more on β€œPrime.”
