Kelly Wright talks to Zion Escobar on Freedmen’s Town in Houston, Texas, which former slaves founded after the Civil War.
Escobar, the executive director for Houston Freedmen’s Town Conservancy, says that the town was a hub for hundreds of Black businesses and notable figures were from Freedmen’s Town.
“There’s a legacy here for all of America to see that we want everyone to know about.”
She said the conservancy was founded to help grow opportunities in the community. The organization is working toward being designated a world heritage site.
