A Trump-appointed federal judge has ended the CDC and Biden Administration’s national eviction moratorium, potentially leaving millions of Americans at risk of losing their homes.
In Washington, U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich said the CDC order must be set aside, and the agency exceeded its authority by issuing a broad moratorium on evictions across all rental properties.
Evictions have been banned since September. The protection was to expire at the end of January, but President Biden extended it through June.
Some 1 in 5 renters who are behind on their payments are now in jeopardy of losing their apartments.
