A shooting spree in the Atlanta area that has left eight dead has the entire community on edge, especially the cityβs Asian residents. Support is piling up for those as six of the victims were of Asian descent, however, according to the shooter himself, these were not racially charged. Law enforcement officials say it is too early to determine if the shootings qualify as a hate crime. Most notable to speak out was Vice President Kamala Harris, who extended words of encouragement for those in the community and reassurance that every step possible is being taken. “The investigation is ongoing. We don’t yet know we’re not yet clear about the motive, but I do want to say to our Asian American community, that we stand with you and understand how this has frightened and shocked and outraged,β Harris said in a press conference. Authorities are still investigating the shooter’s true motives behind the attack and have not ruled out anything as of yet.
