A recent fatal shooting involving a Chicago cop who has a history of violence has the victim’s family questioning why he’s still on the job.
Alberto Covarrubias shot and killed Michael Craig after he called 911 for assistance last month.
Craig called and said his wife had a knife to his neck. When the officer entered the scene, he pulled out his taser and gun, instantly shooting.
The officer has a history of domestic violence and alcoholism.
In 2016, Covarrubias was arrested for a domestic violence incident and accused of tampering with official paperwork. He appeared to be drunk and refused a breathalyzer. He was later charged with assaulting an officer.
The Superintendent at the time recommended Covarrubias’ firing. Instead, he was suspended for three months and underwent treatment for alcoholism. A psychologist cleared him to return to work.
