According to the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law, 20 states have enacted 36 laws that restrict the right to peacefully assemble since 2017.
The number of draconian anti-protest bills proliferated after demonstrations over racial justice and police violence against Black people, even though over 96% of the protests were peaceful.
In less than 10 months, 100 bills were introduced in 33 states, according to PEN America.
