Oct. 21 was Spirit Day, the annual show of support for young LGBTQ+ Americans.
These kids who are just understanding their gender or sexual identities are significant targets for bullying and harassment. Millions wore purple in solidarity, including the White House Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
“I can only hope that young people who might be watching or sees clips of this briefing will know that they are supported and represented in the highest levels of government,” Jean-Pierre said.
