After former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty for the murder of George Floyd, President Joe Biden spoke about the verdict. He said, “No one should be above the law, and today’s verdict sends that message, but it’s not enough.” This leaves many wondering about the impact this case could have on police departments across the country. Retired Chief Deputy U.S. Marshall Matthew Fogg, who has confronted unequal policing throughout his career, joined “Start Your Day” with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss the impact of the verdict. Fogg said it was good to see the ruling, but he’s hoping for change that he cannot foresee right now. Fogg said police officers have a lot of discretion and they can get away with many things like killings and beatings. He also said if the other officers pushed Chauvin off Floyd, he thinks they would have been brought up on charges for intervening.
