Yodit Tewolde on Joe Ligon, the nation’s longest serving juvenile lifer

Yodit Tewolde talks to BNC legal contributor Paul Henderson in Joe Ligon, who spent 68 years in prison after he was sentenced to life at age 15.

The 83-year-old has never voted, paid a bill, had a partner or had children. He was incarcerated at Pennsylvania Institution for Defective Delinquents.

Pennsylvania is the state with the most juveniles sentenced to life without parole.

“We have to do a better job. We have to dismantle the system,” Henerson says.
