Black Unemployment Rate Higher Than National Average

Charles Blow opens up “Prime” by discussing the newly released jobs numbers. The U.S. economy added 194,000 jobs in September, resulting in the unemployment rate hitting 4.8%.

Despite the low unemployment rate, unemployment in the Black community remains high at 7.9%.

“According to an analysis by the Washington Post, even Black people with college degrees have a higher unemployment rate than white Americans with only a high school education,” Blow says.

Professor of economics and international relations at Michigan State University, Lisa Cook and associate professor of economics at Colorado State University, Dr. Guy Numa, join “Prime” to talk about Friday’s job report.

All this and more on “Prime.”
