The grave of Eugene Williams, the 17-year-old Black teenager who was the first victim of the Chicago Race Massacre of 1919, has a marker.
A group of Chicago residents came together to remember the first victim of one of the worst race massacres in U.S. history. The Chicago Race Riot of 1919 was a part of a nationwide rush of racial violence. Researchers believe in a sequence of 10 months, at least 250 African Americans were killed by white mobs.
