Homeschooling Rates for Black Households in 2020 Increased From 3.3% to 16%


Parents are battling whether or not to send their children to school for in-person learning, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism.

According to the Census Bureau, homeschooling has seen a spike during the pandemic as Black households are the highest demographic, from 3.3% in the spring of 2020 to 16.1% by the fall of 2020.

Educational consultant Keisha Matthews-Berry, who is a former teacher and homeschools her four kids, joins Charles Blow on “Prime” to discuss the increase of homeschooling among Black households.
