Marc Lamont Hill celebrates Zaila Avant-garde, the first African American winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Zaila was on “Start Your Day with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill” to discuss her win and her studying 13,000 words a day in preparation.
“She is a star, she is brilliant, she is wonderful,” Hill says. “I love projecting Black brilliance around the world.”
