New Initiative Aimed to Find More Black Women as Directors on Film Sets


Marc Lamont Hill sits down with Zakiya Carr Johnson talk about her initiative, Black Women Disrupt the Web, to get more Black female directors on film sets in Brazil.

β€œThis global web series competition provides funding for emerging Black women filmmakers from Brazil, Colombia, Kenya and South Africa to help develop their own projects,” Hill says.

According to a study from the Brazilian film agency Ancine, 75% of mainstream films were directed by white men, while Black women-directed no mainstream films.
